Privacy and what happens to your data

The calculators on this site run in your browser, and the numbers you type into them are never sent to a server.

Calculators run in your browser

Every calculator on Darling Mirror runs in your browser, and the numbers you enter are never sent to a server. Position size, margin and pip value workings are done on your own device, so a figure such as the margin on a 0.10-lot gold position at 1:200, about $85.50, is computed locally and not stored by us. Nothing you type is transmitted, logged or attached to a profile.

That design choice is deliberate. Trading figures can reveal how much capital someone is working with, and there is no editorial reason for this desk to see them. If you clear your browser data, the workings are gone with it, because we never held a copy.

Traffic counts and local storage

We keep only aggregate traffic counts, which tell us how many visits a page receives and nothing about who made them. We do not build reader profiles, we do not sell data, and we do not run advertising networks on these pages. The counts exist so the desk can tell which explanations are being read and which need rewriting.

Local storage on your device holds your own preferences, such as a setting you chose on a calculator, so the page behaves the way you left it. That storage sits on your machine and is not a record we can read. Clearing it in your browser settings removes it at any time.

The third parties that can see a request from this page

The third parties involved are the analytics provider that counts page views, the affiliate network that records broker-link clicks, and the broker itself once you follow a link. This site does not run advertising networks, social media pixels, or data-broker scripts. Each of those parties receives only the technical request data needed for its function, such as the page URL and a timestamp, not the amounts you type into a calculator.

The broker you click through to is a separate business with its own privacy policy, and once you land on its domain its terms apply rather than ours. For Australian readers, the entity that serves this market is FxPro UK Limited, and the relevant caveat is that FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC but does not hold an ASIC licence, so Australian residents deal with an offshore entity and should check this before funding. That regulatory position also means the broker's data handling follows its own jurisdiction's rules.

The analytics provider and affiliate network act as processors for the limited purposes described, and they are not permitted to use the data for their own marketing. We do not sell, rent, or trade any data to third parties. If a third party's script is blocked by your browser or an extension, the site's core calculators continue to work because they run locally without needing those scripts.

What this site stores and what it never stores

This site stores only what is needed to remember your calculator inputs and your cookie choice, and it never stores your name, email, phone number, brokerage account credentials, or the dollar amounts you type into the calculators. The storage is limited to your browser: a small local-storage entry for your calculator settings and a cookie preference flag. Nothing from those entries is transmitted to our servers because there is no server-side account system on this site.

The site does not store any funding details. Payment methods such as PayID or bank transfer are handled entirely by the broker you choose, not by us. We do not ask for, collect, or retain bank account numbers, PayID identifiers, or transaction references. If you see a field on this site asking for such details, it is not ours and should be treated as suspicious; close the page and navigate directly to the broker's own domain.

Calculator inputs are stored only in your browser's local storage so that a page refresh does not wipe your lot size or price assumptions. That data stays on your device and is not synced, backed up, or shared. Clearing your browser's site data removes it permanently. We do not use cookies or any other mechanism to reconstruct your inputs on our servers, and we do not log the numbers you enter into any analytics system.

Brokers set their own cookies

A broker you reach through a link on this site sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy, and that policy is the one that governs what happens on the broker's site. We do not control those cookies, we cannot read them, and we cannot delete them for you. The affiliate link tells the broker that a visit came from this desk; what the broker does next is a matter between you and the broker.

Read the broker's privacy and cookie notices before you open an account, particularly where an offshore entity is involved. For FxPro the position we state is that FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC. It does not hold an ASIC licence, so Australian residents deal with an offshore entity — check this before funding. The broker's own documents set out how it handles your information.

Affiliate tracking explained without the euphemisms

This site earns money when a reader clicks a link to a broker and later opens a funded account, and that arrangement is called affiliate tracking. The tracking works through a cookie or a redirect parameter that tells the broker the visit came from here. It does not change what you pay, because the cost of your trades is set by the broker's own terms, not by whether you arrived through an affiliate link.

Affiliate tracking records the click and the fact that an account was opened, not your trading results or your account balance. We do not receive your name, your account number, your deposits, or your profits from the broker. The only information that comes back is aggregate: how many clicks a page generated and whether an account was eventually funded, which helps us decide which pages are useful to readers.

You can avoid affiliate tracking entirely by navigating to the broker's website directly rather than through a link on this site. If you do click an affiliate link, clearing your browser cookies afterwards removes the tracking cookie from your device. The arrangement does not affect our editorial judgement: we describe costs, leverage caps, and regulatory status the same way whether or not a link is monetised.

The four kinds of cookies this site can set and what each one does

This site can set four kinds of cookies: a necessary cookie for your privacy choice, a preference cookie for calculator settings, an analytics cookie that records page views in aggregate, and an affiliate cookie that records which broker link you clicked. Each kind has a single, narrow job and none of them is used to build a profile of you across other websites. The necessary and preference cookies are set by this site directly.

The necessary cookie remembers whether you have accepted or declined optional cookies, so the banner does not reappear on every page. The preference cookie stores your last-used calculator inputs, such as lot size and the reference price, so the tool is ready when you return. Neither cookie contains an identifier that can be linked to a person, and both expire within a reasonable period rather than persisting indefinitely.

The analytics cookie counts page views and referring domains in aggregate, without recording the specific numbers you type into a calculator or any identifier that could single you out. The affiliate cookie is set only when you click a link to a broker and records that a click occurred so the broker can attribute it; it does not contain your trading account details. You can block any of these in your browser settings, though blocking the necessary cookie may cause the consent banner to reappear.

Retention periods and the actions that delete data

Cookie data is kept only as long as its purpose requires: the consent cookie lasts until you clear it or it expires on its own schedule, the preference cookie lasts for a set period so your calculator settings survive a return visit, and the affiliate cookie lasts long enough for the broker to attribute a click. None of these are set to persist indefinitely, and none is renewed automatically without a new visit.

Local-storage entries for calculator inputs remain on your device until you clear site data or the browser evicts them under storage pressure. There is no server-side copy to delete. Analytics records are retained by the provider in aggregate form for a defined reporting window and are then discarded or anonymised further; we do not keep a separate copy because we do not operate the analytics backend.

The action that deletes everything at once is clearing cookies and site data for this domain in your browser settings. Individual deletions are also possible: removing the affiliate cookie stops click attribution, and removing the preference cookie resets your calculator inputs. If you have made a deletion request to us or to a third party, we will confirm what was removed and what could not be traced to you.

Your rights over data linked to you and the steps to exercise them

You have the right to ask what personal information, if any, is held about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted, and you can exercise those rights by contacting us through the address on the contact page. Because this site does not create user accounts or collect names, most requests will return a nil result: the only data that could be linked to you is a cookie identifier stored in your own browser.

To remove local data immediately, clear your browser's cookies and site data for this domain; that deletes the preference and affiliate cookies along with any local-storage entries. For analytics data held by the provider, you can request deletion by reference to the cookie identifier, but note that aggregate counts cannot be traced back to an individual. We will respond to a request within a reasonable period and will not charge a fee for a first request.

If you are in Australia, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles set the framework for how personal information should be handled, and you can raise a concern with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if a response is unsatisfactory. We aim to resolve requests directly first. Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under Australian law or under the law of the jurisdiction where the relevant third party operates.

FAQ

Common questions

What does Darling Mirror collect when I use the calculators?

The calculators take the figures you type in order to return a result, and they do not need your name, account number or broker login. You can use them without identifying yourself. Anything that identifies you is not required to size a position, work out pip value or check margin, so leave those fields alone if they appear anywhere.

Do you store the amounts I enter in the margin or profit calculators?

The numbers you enter are inputs for a calculation, not a record of your trading, and the desk does not ask for your account balance or holdings. Standard web server logs may record a visit, but not the values you type into a tool. Treat any calculator as arithmetic you run, not as a place to store private figures.

What happens if I email the desk?

Your email and its contents are used to read and answer your message, and that is the purpose they are kept for. Do not send passwords, identity documents, card numbers or broker statements, because the desk has no reason to hold them and cannot act on them. Ask if you want a message deleted after it has been answered.

Does the site use cookies and who else sees my data?

The site may use cookies for basic operation and for measuring how pages are used, and advertising or affiliate partners may set their own. That means a partner can see that a visit came through a link, subject to its own policy. Check your browser settings if you want to limit cookies.

Is my information sent overseas?

It may be, because the site's hosting, analytics and advertising partners are not necessarily located in Australia, so a visit can involve transfer to another country. What is transferred depends on which services load on the page you open. If that matters to you, block third-party scripts or contact the desk before sending personal details.
